Default I Was Robbed Today

I live in New York City. NYC is known for brutes that would hurt you just because you're alive. Today while waiting for a friend at a train station, 2 guys in their 20's were watching me, I knew they were. I knew what would happen so I just let it happen. Sure enough they came up to me did the whole act, pulled a knife and said "give me all of the money you got". I figured I can't respond to agression, if I did then everyone I love would miss me, and I just love living. So the whole psychology thing came into my head, act scared(of course I was, not saying I wasn't), hesitate to really make them be in a rush for after they take what they can get so they run instead of try to take more and trick them into thinking I only had 20 dollars. I did everything I stated and it worked They were really getting pissed off of how much I was hesitating, I know I was playing with them but it was worth it because I had $87, Ipod and a cell phone on me. I took 20 dollars out and said "this is all I have", one grabbed it and they both jetted for the train. I was upset that they were able to have their way even though it wasn't exactly what they wanted. I sat down and a goth girl and her boyfriend came over to me and sat next to me. The girl said "those guys up there, did they rob you?" I said "yep.." she asked "how much?" I told her and she took a 20 dollar bill out, I was telling her "God bless that you're so nice but I can't take your money, just be happy it was me that was robbed and not you" she said "just take it, I have much more" she tossed it to me and got up. The only words that came out, that COULD come out was "God bless you..." I didn't know people can be so nice. My girlfriend then arrived at the station and hugged me and asked "are you ok?" I called her earlier to ask if she was close and told her what happend. I kept asking "do you think any less of me, I mean that I can't defend you or myself" she simply said "you can obviously think since you didn't get hurt, got almost nothing taken from you and got your money back. If you did act in another way you would have gotten killed and I want you right here, alive." It's nice having a girlfriend like that, that doesn't care if you're aggressive or "manly" because to her being "manly" is playing smart . I hung out with her for a little then went on my way home. On the train I went to a map just to see if I was going the right way. A man sat near the map and asked "where are you going?" I told him and he told me it was the next stop. He got off the same stop and saw the F train which is what I had to get on too so he started running with me following. We got on the train and he saw I was a bit down and tried to strike a conversation like how to get to my stop faster from where I was(which it is faster). Then he asked "where did you come from?" I said "Far Rockaway, I regret it since I just got robbed there..". His response was fantastic, he told me a whole philosophy which was basically; to feel angry at people who have done wrong to you only makes you a worse person but if you forgive those who have done wrong to you, then you can really be loving and compationite, which would you rather?" I naturally said "loving which would make me happy". It was so nice of him to give me advice like that to stop what would be depression coming my way. In conclusion, I forgive those SoB's who robbed me and I truely hope they get something worth it like food with that 20 bucks I gave them which I doubt but hey it's their choice. For now on I'll try to be more careful, I don't know how but hey I'll try. Many lessons came to me today especially how I shouldn't look at people's races:

Black - 1)2 guys that robbed me.
2)Girl friend who told me she doesn't care, she'd rather me alive and in one piece.

Asian - Guy who I met on the train who helped me mentally.

Spanish - Girl who replaced what I had lost.

It's not because they were Black that they robbed me, it was because they were angry people who probably don't care for White people. Nicer people, also not white helped me out though . Hope you enjoyed my little story, leave feedback I'd love to hear what you guys have to say, unless it's negative.

Yeah but if they were your cousins(if I understood correctly) that really isn't as bad. But thanks anyway.

Eh, It's like I've been saying all along. It DOESN'T matter what color you are, what you have between your legs, and what you belive in - it's wether your a butthead or not.

I just wish people saw this too. Then maybe we can move forward a bit.

Maybe I should be more forgiving. If anyone remembers I was robbed a while ago and I still don't forgive the lil *expeltive deleted* who took my stuff. I got it back, but I still dont respect him. Deep down I hate him for going against my trust. (I'm not gonna get into that story again. Lets let old wounds heal, ya?)

Well yeah I understand why you'd be angry but everything happens for a reason I believe and since i'm Catholic in a prayer called "Our Father" there is a verse "forgive those whove sinned against us" so I go by that

that sucks and a good move by doing what you did. It's a tough situation, you want to pull some crazy matrix crap or a Dirty Harry move but this isn't the movies.

I don't think it is wrong to be angry at people who have done wrong to you. It is natural. Just don't hang onto that anger too long, or it will become misplaced on someone you care about or who doesn't deserve it. I don't think you can let it go too quickly or your not allowing the feelings to run their course. Emotional scars are like physical ones. They don't heal overnight.

This is just my opinion. But I think it makes some sense. Who knows. The important thing is you made it through the ordeal and you are ok.

It's funny you should say the Matrix thing because I was thinking "ok, smack the knife, punch him, move between them, jump the turn styles, oh crap i'm dead ". Also funny how a complete stranger said "Look at the bright side, you're still alive because i'm sure you have loved ones who would be very upset if you were gone" I swear I was about to burst out into tears on that one.

I don't see what this has got to with "races" since to me the story was about how some people can be truly generous in this world when it comes to being sympathetic, whether it be lending emotional or financial support.

It sounds like you did the smart thing and avoided any bloodshed.

Thank you and that's the point, it has nothing to do with anything racial. That's why I showed these people weren't the same race as me but helped me anyway.

Aside from my own strange crime-related story tonight, this reminds me of a tale my mother told me about an aunt of mine.

She lived in South Korea, and was visiting a crowded city I can't remember, let alone pronounce. A couple of thugs grabbed her and demanded her purse. She refused to give it up and got beaten up, then they took her purse.

The end

That's really all there is to it. She balanced the consequences and chose pride over simplicity, and paid for it, unfortunately. Since then, I believe she's recovered, although I'm not sure what's become of her, or what other information was concealed. (was only 14 at the time my mother told me about it)
She was rather pretty, and with a group of men, one can only imagine what other things they might do to a young girl who refused to cooperate =\

As a pre-caution, I suggest most people take:
*First Aid certification test (most likely classes in order to pass it )
*Self-Defence classes
[and/or] *Carry non-lethal self-defence items permitted by state/county/city ordinances

First Aid training is always nice to have around. It's not like injuries and accidents are rare. There's nothing worse than standing around while someone's in trouble when there's nothing at all you can do about it, which is why I suggest people learn these things in advance, lest they regret it in the future.
Self-defence classes teach you holds and moves to get away from attackers quickly and safely. Not only do you benefit, you can share these with others who may need them that you're concerned about, such as family. They should ideally also encourage personal fitness, which is always a plus.
Pepper spray or similar airborne products designed to inflict temporary debilitating pain, stun-guns, and other such things can be carried with you in purses, pockets, belts, or wherever you can best conceal them for when necessary to use. They require less training to use, although I wouldn't forego it entirely, and can help reduce the risk of injury without causing lethal damage. *warning* many cities restrict the usage of these. Schools won't allow any of them in except on authorized personnel, as well.

Besides being interesting subjects in their own right (or I could just be a freak who actually enjoys learning about a wide variety of subjects), these things are generally good to know and use in everyday life.
We're around danger everywhere, and a few hours out of your life to learn these things is not too much to pay.
Particularly in a time where people are prone to driving recklessly.

Eh, I'll say it one more time: If I ate all your skin off, and then ate off the skin of some other guy, could you REALLY tell who they are? Where they come from or what they belive in? We're all the same on the inside. Except for Paris Hilton. She doesn't count. Shes not human.

I got a story....

Once upon a time in Mexico, no not the movie, I was walking along the crowded street shopping minding my own business then I notice this boy about five years old brush up against me. I thought it was nothing so I shopped for a while. When I was about to buy something in a nice store I found I figured out that my wallet was gone. Then the mexican clerk kicked me out of the store. Pissed off and angry, I walk around and try to find the small boy. Instead of me finding him he finds me. Then he trys to sell my wallet to me. So I fight him and take it back. I left Mexico the next day.

Not a nice ending. :P

I myself have alot of pride. I felt like "i'm such a wuss, I could have done something!" reality is, I couldn't and even if I could, I don't want to. Hurting others is not my thing. Pride is not always good and I was about to let mine give in but I considered everything I love and just said "to hell with it" and went along with it. It was a scary experience, many can say near death but nothing happend. I guess I shouldn't just sit here, thinking about what COULD have happend because reality is reality, it was inevitable.
